Paddy Dougherty’s musical career has taken her on quite a ride. First as a backup singer for national bluesman David Bromberg, performing in venues such as Wolf Trap (D.C), The Bottom Line (NY), Lime Kiln (VA), The Iron Horse (MA), The Birchmere (VA), The Philadelphia Folk Festival (PA) on Mountain Stage Radio, and at numerous festivals and clubs along the east coast. In September 2005, the newly formed quartet was invited to have several songs arranged for full orchestra by legendary hit maker Charles Calello, for a performance with Rita Coolidge and The Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra. The show was so successful that she and her quartet were invited to perform her original works again with the symphony in June 2006 at the City Stadium before a hometown crowd of nearly 5,000. September 2007 found Paddy once again joining forces with The Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra along with master songwriter Paul Reisler premiering 5 songs co-written with area children through the national award-winning songwriting program Kid Pan Alley. Though the performances with the children are gratifying and sharing a stage with a full orchestra is electrifying, Paddy’s new found favorite performance experience comes by way of house concerts. “We bring up to 20 café tables complete with skirts and candles along with our sound system and lights. The host invites 40-100 people and we all experience music in the most unbelievably intimate way that only the comfort of a home can provide.” Making their home in Virginia, the quartet is currently recording a third CD scheduled for release Spring 2008. Tom Kimmel of Nashville writes, “Paddy Dougherty is as real a deal as they come. She doesn’t have to work to pull you in; she just sings and you’re already there because you can feel her heart in every song, and her voice is the voice of an angel, an angel who’s lived a little, and knows what’s going on.”
